Steroid Injections

• Purpose: Reduces inflammation to relieve pain, improve movement, and enable recovery through exercise.
• How It Works:
  • Steroids break the pain-inflammation cycle.
  • Usually combined with a local anaesthetic for immediate relief.
• When to Expect Results:
  • Local anaesthetic works within minutes.
  • Steroid effects begin within 2–3 days and peak in 2–3 weeks.
• Duration of Effect:
  • Varies depending on the condition and lifestyle.
  • Can last from a few weeks to several months.
  • Some chronic conditions (e.g., arthritis) may require ongoing management.
• Aftercare Instructions:
  • Rest the injected joint for 48 hours.
  • Avoid high-impact or repetitive movements for 2 weeks.

• Note: Spinal or coccyx injections are not performed.

Hyaluronic Acid / Visco-Supplementation Injections

What It Is:

• Injections of hyaluronic acid (e.g., Ostenil Plus, Durolane) into synovial joints (e.g., knee, hip, shoulder).
• Helps restore lubrication and shock absorption lost due to osteoarthritis.

How It Helps:

• Protects joint cartilage, reduces pain, improves joint function.
• Ostenil Plus contains mannitol to prolong effectiveness.

When to Use:

• Best when pain is related to activity.
• If joint is inflamed even at rest, a steroid injection may be needed first, followed by hyaluronic acid later.

Duration and Repeatability:

• Effects last several months.
• Safe to repeat when the effect wears off.

Side Effects: No known serious side effects.
